competitive eating

in tonight's grey's anatomy, one of the patients was a skinny asian woman who's supposed to be a competitive eater who had a tear in her esophagous. she was probably based on sonya thomas, a skinny korean woman known for many wins in competitive eating and world records. (among them: 11 pounds of cheesecake in 9 minutes, 8.31 pounds of Vienna Sausages in 10 minutes,46 dozen (552) oysters in 10 minutes, 52 hard-boiled eggs in 5 minutes, etc)

anyways, did you know that shoving as much food down as quickly as possible is an actual sport? there are people like sonya who train for these kinds of events. just yesterday, she won 4000 bucks for downing a 9 lb burger in 27 minutes. how great would it be to get paid to eat? granted, you have to be able to eat giant portions, but you probably get to eat as much food and you may even get paid to do it! maybe i should quit med school and join the competitive eating circuit. sure, i don't have the big gut advantage as big fat americans, but the fact that skinny people like sonya thomas and takeru kobayashi (winner of nathan's hot dog eating contest) win routinely says you don't have to have big gut to eat a lot.

just a thought, since reading for medicine, especially nephro, isn't too fun, and i still have three weeks to go.

sweet. so now i can definitely consider competitive eating as an option... just have to lose some fat in my stomach to be thinner.

Personally, I would just graft spandex into my abdominal wall.
Or I'd eat a tapeworm and make it a tag team competition. Go wormy, go!
